Air Despatcher – Royal Logistics Corps (Regular Soldier) Summary: Could you load an aircraft securely – and then drop the goods when you’re in the air? If so, you could have what it takes to be an Air Despatcher with the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC). We’ll teach you how to drive a range of vehicles, load supplies safely and how to drop them using parachutes. With fantastic training and the chance to gain an apprenticeship and specialist trade qualifications, you’ll have an exciting career. It helps if you’re a quick thinker who can work as part of a team. Get in. Get on. You prepare supplies, equipment and vehicles for delivery by planes and helicopters. Once safely loaded onto the aircraft, you go into the air with them and drop them by parachute into the combat zone. You work as part of a dispatch crew and together you operate, drive and maintain a wide range of vehicles, including cargo handling equipment. You’ll be based at RAF Brize Norton and support operations all over the world. Get skills You learn how to secure goods and equipment on an aircraft: lashing and tensioning techniques. You’ll also learn how to put together automatic and manual systems for parachute drops. We’ll show you how to prepare deliveries, attach parachutes, secure loads and dispatch them from an aircraft too. Get training During basic training, you’ll learn how to be a soldier: how to survive outdoors and fire weapons. Next you do a four-day Air Despatch assessment at RAF Brize Norton – where you’ll be based for most of your career. We’ll test your fitness and logical thinking. If you pass, you’ll spend the next 12 weeks learning how to be an Air Despatcher. We’ll teach you about knots, lashings, manual handling, choosing a landing site, air safety, aerial delivery equipment and assembling loads. Get qualified The Army can help you gain a range of qualifications. These could include: Level 2 Certificate Logistics & Transport Affiliate Member of CILT Level 2 Apprenticeship Aviation Operations on the Ground Gain higher level qualifications Get promoted We ll be behind you every step of the way as you move up the ranks.
