Vacancy: SPECIALTY DOCTOR UROLOGY Ref: 563a.15 Salary: £37,547 TO £70,018 Closing Date: 14th September 2015 Interview Date: Late September / early October 2015 NHS Dumfries and Galloway are looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Urology. The successful candidate will join a team which comprises two Consultants, a Middle Grade Doctor (this post) and a Nurse Consultant. A special interest which complements the department will be encouraged and could include aspects of Uro-Oncology, Diagnostic Urology, or Stone Disease. The Department provides a core elective and emergency urology service to the Dumfries &Galloway region (population 148,000). Out-patient and cystoscopy services are provided at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) and the Galloway Community Hospital (GCH) in Stranraer. Elective surgery is performed at DGRI. Diagnostic services are supported by basic static urodynamics, flow studies and transrectal ultrasound and prostate biopsy. There are established andrology clinics (sexual dysfunction and infertility) led by the Nurse Consultant. We are also currently exploring a business case for laser equipment for the treatment of calculi. The Department is part of the “managed clinical network” for cancer services for the South East of Scotland. There is a teleconference link to weekly MDTs in Edinburgh. This is an exciting time to be joining the Department, as we reconfigure our service towards development of a progressive department in preparation for the move to a brand new District General Hospital boasting state of the art outpatient, inpatients and theatre facilities. Dumfries is located in the South West of Scotland. Dumfries town boast a brand new leisure centre with state of the art sporting and gym facilities. Dumfries and Galloway is a popular tourist resort for outdoor activities – walking, water sports and mountain biking.
