NÁPLŇ PRÁCE:

ESHCOL  HOUSE JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT HOUSEKEEPER      POSITION: Assistant Housekeeper  RESPONSIBLE TO: Provider/Registered Manager/Housekeeper/Matron PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:        To assist the Housekeeper in the implementation and management of a comprehensive cleaning programme for the Home, and in the direction of a team of cleaning staff and to advise on matters relating to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).        To assist the Housekeeper on a delegated basis with issues of Health & Safety.        In the absence of the Housekeeper, to liaise with the Maintenance Technician in the planning of activities related to building and equipment upkeep.   The job consists of the following main areas:   1)     CLEANING PLAN AND MATERIALS o        To implement the cleaning plan for the Home and to assist in the upkeep of the fabric of the building and to ensure that a high level of hygiene is maintained. o        To assist in the ordering and monitoring of use of all cleaning materials used in the Home. * To understand the correct dilution and use of cleaning materials. * To assist in the maintenance of all documentation on cleaning substances required under COSHH Regulations.   2)     UPKEEP OF THE FABRIC AND DECORATION * To assist in the planned upkeep of the fabric of the building. * Renewing of light bulbs and being aware that adequate stocks are held. * To report any abnormalities of portable equipment.   3)     EQUIPMENT AND STORES In the absence of the Housekeeper * To ensure the correct use of all cleaning equipment and its safekeeping. * To order, monitor and control stock of cleaning stores. * To advise of any faults occurring to equipment or repairs required. * To be responsible for the allocation of all cleaning materials. * To be responsible for the safekeeping of all cleaning stores. * To assist in the monitoring of laundry costs.   4)     LAUNDRY & LINEN In the absence of the Housekeeper o        To organise and oversee the domestic team in managing the Home’s laundry. o        To ensure that personal laundry is dealt with in the most appropriate manner using the correct washing solutions and marked as required. o        To ensure that linen for external washing is correctly recorded and prepared for collection. o        To ensure that the laundry equipment is used correctly at the correct temperatures according to washing to be done.     5)     HEATING AND ENERGY PERFORMANCE * Helping to ensure that rooms, common areas and service areas are adequately heated and thermostatic controls properly used and in good working order and maintenance problems promptly and properly reported and dealt with. * Ensuring that when windows are open, heating systems are turned off.   6)     HEALTH AND SAFETY * To bring to the attention of the management any equipment, materials or working practices which may be deemed to constitute a hazard to the health and safety of residents or staff eg. equipment in corridors, trailing leads, cleaning materials left unattended etc. * To be fully familiar with the working of the security system and to be aware of the security policies of the Home. * Ensuring that any accident/incident is correctly reported and noted according to policies and procedures laid down.   7)     FIRE DRILLS * To understand the fire procedures and respond to fire drills in the correct manner.   8)     TRAINING The Assistant Housekeeper will be required to take part in the regular in-service training and development of domestic staff.  Main areas of training include:   1. Induction programme 2. Basic procedures and techniques 3. Awareness of residents’ needs 4. Hygiene and Infection Control 5. Health & Safety, including fire safety 6. Moving & Handling 7. Dementia & Abuse   9)     RESIDENTS * To be aware of at all times of the needs and sensitivities of the residents and to accommodate these in the cleaning programme. * To be aware of the importance to residents of personal possessions and to ensure that these are handled with care.   OTHER DUTIES Other matters sometimes arise which the Assistant Housekeeper has to handle using his / her common sense and discretion. Most of the time the Matron or Proprietors will be available to give advice or assistance in person or by phone, but if they are not s/he is expected to confer with the Managers on duty to reach appropriate decisions.   PATIENCE, UNDERSTANDING AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE Patience, understanding and kindness are essential to this job as is the maintenance and improvement of professional knowledge and competence.   FLEXIBILITY This job description is a guide and you are expected to be flexible in your work, especially if a resident, a relative or another member of staff needs help. For management purposes hours worked may be varied and you may be required to work flexible shifts.         May 2008
